SHOPsquatch Cover Art
It's been a slow and steady process, but I'm getting closer to finishing up the cover to SHOPsquatch, the comic made during Attack the Page! What you see at the end of this post is basically the finished cover. I still need to add the title/logo and mine and Rhea's bylines. I was thinking the next time you see the fully finished cover-with title and all-it'd be when I'll share the entire comic with you via post or download (probably both).
Arriving at this cover did take some time. My first attempt was more of a straight on approach. Very symmetrical and square on. The mall facade I'm referencing here in this illustration is the Hulen Mall in Fort Worth. The Mall's facade was designed by Dallas architect Thomas Stanley and is one of several stores in the DFW area to feature these really tall columned archways with an intricate abstract tiled mosaic behind them. Below are a few examples, the Hulen Mall being the first.
I wanted to show off the mall's retro architecture so my initial cover design had that in mind:
I was going to have a silhouetted sasquatch in the foreground standing and facing the mall just before entering. I still really like this idea and may go back to it for fun later. Maybe. But, when I conferred with my wife, she had a different idea in mind and shared this image:
