Apologies to all involved but the last Summerween Book Club meet up failed to record! Unfortunately you'll never know what great conversations we had about Skeeters, Cryptids, B-movies and more. All the more reason you should definitely be joining us! This week we'll be reading Proctor Valley Road:
The synopsis reads:
August, Rylee, Cora & Jennie have organized a “Spook Tour” with their classmates on the most haunted, demon-infested stretch of road in America to fund attending the concert of their dreams. But when their visit turns deadly, these four friends race to rescue the missing students… before the town tears them limb from limb. Now they must slay the evils roaming Proctor Valley Road… along with the monsters lurking in the hearts of 1970s America. Visionary author Grant Morrison (Klaus, Batman: Arkham Asylum) and co-writer Alex Child (BBC’s Holby City) along with artist Naomi Franquiz (Tales from Harrow County) present a chilling new horror series about the mysterious monsters that haunt Proctor Valley Road – and the four misfit teenagers who must stop them.
Only too late did I realize this is set in the 70's. Whoops. But, it still packs spooky summer vibes so I think it's something we can overlook. As usual, I'll be posting my full review of the book right here on Friday and we'll be meeting online via Zoom call to discuss all things Proctor Valley Road on Saturday the 22nd at 6pm.
Smells Like Space Aliens
When I was waist deep in research, looking up 90's pop culture, 90's music, 90's nostalgia, I couldn't get far without acknowledging the rise of grunge rock music and the seemingly instant fame of Kurt Cobain and Nirvana. It was in the midst of all this 90's nostalgia: the images, the music, the history that I thought it'd be fun to re-create an iconic photo of Nirvana...with aliens.
Of course below is the actual photo for reference:
I also made a process video/reel of me inking this one, so look for that on Instagram sometime this week.
That's it for me today. Excited for this week's book and for more Summerween activities. Heads up: Summerween's official day-June 22nd-is next Saturday. Be sure to plan something extra spooky next Saturday!
Until next time...
