Hi there. I’m Brandon Hayman: cartoonist, illustrator and the person behind Bag and Board. Allow me a quick introduction: I do several things, so let’s unpack them one by one.
My most ambitious and longest running project is an ongoing comic titled The After Death. Set in New Orleans, Louisiana it centers on a ghost named Spencer, and his journey to self-discovery. He’s starting to realize that even though he’s dead, it doesn’t mean he doesn’t have anxieties.
You can read a majority of the series on Webtoon for free, but I’m currently posting the entire series here on Substack, working up to the most recent. I’m slowly self publishing the entire story as graphic novels. Book One was launched in 2023, and Book Two was released last year, while Book Three will be released later this year.
Substack is also home to a weekly auto-bio comic series where I show up as myself, and tell more personal stories via comics.
Between Kickstarting campaigns, fulfilment, and in-person shows I’ve self published a few other shorter comics. The first being Crash Landing, a one-shot about Aliens coming to Dallas, TX in search of the best corn dogs on Earth.
The next one is a comic adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s satirical short story Lionizing. Physical copies are available in my online store.
I’m also on Patreon. Patreon is host to a lot of behind the scenes content: photos/scans of new art and comics before they hit social media, and updates on other projects I work on and off on such as children’s books and other client work.
For both paid Substack subscribers and Patreon members, I record what I call a “ramble podcast” that’s released bi-weekly. It’s basically an extended voice note where I sit down and just have a casual chat about whatever I’ve been at work on. Super casual, and a great way to connect a little further than blog posts and my newsletter.
Last but not least, I publish a weekly newsletter that’s free to read across all platforms. It’s like a highlight reel from the week before. In it I gather up the comics I made during the week, update readers on noteworthy news and goings-on, talk about shows, making comics, and sometime wax poetic about being an independent artist while trying not to fall into an existential spiral. It’s fun!
I’m sure I’m missing something, just in case find me at my website: www.brandonhayman.com.
Thanks for reading!
